Introduction
The processing of your data is necessary for the purposes of carrying out research and statistical analysis at the Liverpool Language Lab at University of Liverpool. This privacy statement outlines what this means in practice and explains how the Liverpool Language Lab at the University of Liverpool collects, stores, manages and protects your data.

How have we obtained your data?
As a prospective research participant, we have obtained the data we hold on you from two sources
1. Directly from you,
           a. As part of the consent procedure you will have provided your personal information on a consent form and on a personal details form.  You will also                      have provided data by completing questionnaires.
2. From a third party,
           b. As part of the research project, your child’s school will provide us with data about your child’s current language ability.

What we use your data for
We will use your data while carrying out research and statistical analysis at the Liverpool Language Lab at the University of Liverpool.  All data you provide on questionnaires will be pseudo-anonymised to ensure you and your child are not identifiable.  To do this, we store all questionnaire data using a random numerical code.  We keep a record of which numerical code relates to which child in a password protected excel file stored on a secure University of Liverpool server.

We will use your personal details for communication purposes only.
This may include:

  • Contacting you to inform you of the findings of the research project.

  • Contacting you to request missing information from your consent form.

How long is personal data held?
Any personal information you provide will be held in accordance with the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998 and The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The data we be used only for the reason specified at the point of collection. We will not sell, licence or trade your personal details to any third party.
We will hold your personal information until we have communicated the findings of the research project to you at the end of the research project.  At this point we will fully anonymise all data collected during the project.  To fully anonymise your data, we will destroy the excel file which contains the link between your numerical code and your personal information.
We will hold your anonymised data indefinitely.  Anonymised data falls outside the scope of GDPR regulation.

Your right to make changes or to ask us to stop using your data
You are in control of your data.  You have the right to withdraw your child’s participation in the study without giving a reason and without your rights being affected.  In such cases we will destroy your data.  We will be unable to destroy your child’s data once it has been fully anonymised at the end of the research project.
You also have the right to request copies of the data held about you, to object to the processing of your personal information, to rectify, and to erase your personal information.  To do so, please contact the research team or the University’s Data Protection Officer.  Our contact details are at the end of this document.
